Dublin Hurling at Bisham Abbey

The Dublin Hurling team brought their Irish charm to Bisham Abbey this month and took part in 3 days of vigorous training on Bisham’s pitches in preparation for their Cup final back in Ireland.

They also had a great Teambuilding session on Bisham Abbey’s grounds with Team Activity group who made the burly Irishmen look rather sheepish when they were soaked through from their Raft building session!!

Hurling is the largest sporting association in Ireland. Although Hurling is hugely popular throughout the country, with the main Hurling Giants of Kilkenny, Tipperary, Galway, Kerry and Cork. There has of late been a revival of the Dublin Hurling team in which they have a talented young squad which have started to get some results. This can do nothing but increase the popularity of the game and ensure a healthy future for it, in the capital. it still isn't that popular in the capital, where Soccer and Gaelic Football (and to a certain extent Rugby) are the main sports. and it is an extraordinary game to watch, extremely fast paced and physically very demanding.

Hurling is best described as a mixture of hockey and Gaelic football, though it predates both of these. It is a field game, the fastest field game in the world (and only Ice Hockey is faster), in which 15 players compete against each other with sticks or "hurls", which are similar to hockey sticks but are larger and flatter at the end.

Yes it looks as frightening as it sounds! But the boys certainly looked threatening and strong in training on the pitch at Bisham and we wish them all the luck of the Irish in their Cup final back home and hope to welcome them back again soon!!
