Bisham Abbey Golf Club gains Golf Clubmark Accreditation

Bisham Abbey’s 9 hole Golf course has always been a popular course, with well attended club nights from juniors to veterans and top quality coaching from Bisham’s Golf Pro Stuart Wall. This coupled with its beautiful riverside course has always been a pull for potential golfers. However Bisham Abbey has stepped up the game for the Golf Club this year by gaining Sport England’s accreditation of Golf Clubmark.

Sport England's Clubmark is a cross-sport accreditation for sports clubs with junior sections. Clubmark is a national standard for quality sports clubs recognized across the country. More than 30 other sports, including tennis and rugby are also using the alliance to add value to their accreditation schemes and over 10,000 sports clubs have been awarded Clubmark or are working towards achieving accreditation.

Clubs awarded Clubmark have seen many tangible benefits, such as:

• Club development: The foundation for any club is its youth structure. By encouraging and attracting young members, it is building a strong future.
• Increased membership: Addressing issues like equity and child protection gives parents confidence when choosing a club for their children.
• Developing coaches and volunteers: As part of Clubmark, clubs receive help in developing the skills of those involved in their organisation.
• A national scheme that identifies and recognizes junior and beginner friendly golf facilities
The three key areas within the golf club which are assessed are:
• Coaching & Playing
• Club Environment (including sports equity & ethics)
• Child Protection & Duty of Care

The BB&O (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxon) Golf Partnership, in conjunction with the sponsorship of Invesco Perpetual, invited Bisham Abbey to a Golfing Awards Presentation at the Oxfordshire Golf Club. Bisham Abbey along with 10 other newly accredited Golf Clubs, were presented with a crystal plaque commemorating the GolfMark award.

The awards evening was very well attended with approx 60 people or more present, including Bisham’s own small contingency. Presentations were given by the BB&O giving a summary of the voluntary work co-ordinated and overseen by them last year for Golf development in Berks Bucks and Oxon, which included Golf for the disabled as well as further development for juniors. There were numerous awards in recognition of these voluntary services.

Bisham Abbey is always striving to be top of its game and the accreditation proves that once again they are maintaining that stature. So to all you fellow golfers out there who haven’t tried us before why not pay us a visit…you might be pleasantly surprised by what you find!
